A New Driveway, A New Lesson

The driveway panels are where the van usually parks, and this was our first large-scale project. Cracks began to appear in the center of the slab in winter. My husband had a knowledge of the driveway contractor and offered us an estimation. Due to the plans that I planned for the kids, I was able to get both my sons to swimming lessons at 11 am and then put my daughter to sleep for an afternoon nap. That way the concrete crew would be able to do their job and be mostly completed by the time the children were up playing. The only real problem was my daughter got up at night to the sound of heavy machinery breaking up then pouring concrete. This little lesson has taught me that camp days and other activities outside the home are necessary for survival. My sons had already completed swimming lessons. But my girl wasn’t as happy.

The next major task for the home consisted of moving the boys to the same room and getting ready for the next baby. My husband had to work for the entire day and, being four months pregnant, I did not possess the stamina or the strength to move furniture for the bedroom. The plan was for a moving company to arrive in the afternoon, and then move both boys into the same space and have furniture companies come in and install furniture and the baby’s bed. The local YMCA proved to be a fantastic resource. As I managed to explain to the mover which areas to move everything and where everything was, I still had three children to care for. Fortunately, the local YMCA offers a summer youth program for kids to hang out for the day under adult supervision. This was great as my boys were able to take part in some sports for one hour while I looked after the room for the babies. The boys were dropped at the YMCA after which I went to the house with my daughter. Although it was stressful, the effort was worthwhile. q74txdz968.
